Most Americans spend a large chunk of time in their cars, making it necessary to keep certain items handy for both comfort and in case of emergency. You probably keep a tire jack and jumper cables in your trunk, but there are also several items that should be kept at arm’s reach in the glove box. Here are five of them.
Documentation: At bare minimum, you should keep your car’s owner manual, proof of insurance and your registration papers in the glove box. You may also choose to toss in emergency contact numbers and you and your family’s medical history in case of an accident. All of this can be stored in a document organizer for safekeeping. However, do not add in your car’s title because that makes it easier for carjackers to sell your car.
Pen and paper: A small notebook and pen can come in handy in a variety of situations, from jotting down items you need to pick up at the grocery store to exchanging information after an accident.
Chargers: Cell phones have become all but permanent attachments to us. Keep a car charger nearby, along with one for your portable GPS as well, so you never have to worry about your electronics dying when you need them.
Flashlight: A flashlight can be used for a simple task, like finding some loose change that you dropped, or for much larger tasks, like changing a tire or checking your car’s fluids at night.
Tissues: Tissues, napkins and even wet wipes come in handy for wiping up spills and cleaning up other messes. Throw in a small bottle of hand sanitizer for good measure, which you can use on your hands or dab onto a tissue to remove small stains.
